Every outdoor system below is fabricated in our Etobicoke shop, the same one behind our interior staircase railings in Toronto, and detailed for GTA weather: drainage, anchoring and coatings chosen for freeze-thaw and salt.
Frameless Glass
Glass on spigots, standoffs or a base shoe for decks and terraces with a view. We use 12mm or 15mm tempered or laminated glass and 316 hardware.
Aluminum
Powder-coated aluminum picket or glass-in-frame systems, light and rust-free, from $75 per lin ft. See aluminum railings for the full range.
Wrought Iron
Heavier exterior iron with powder coat, sometimes hot-dip galvanized underneath, for porches and front steps with character.
Trex/PVC Hybrid
A composite or PVC top rail over aluminum or iron balusters. Warm to the touch and no splinters.
Pool Deck
Glass or aluminum pool enclosures built to municipal pool bylaw heights with self-closing, self-latching gates.
Rooftop Terrace
Guards anchored without compromising the roof membrane, sized for wind on exposed rooftops, with crane lifts for glass when needed.

316 stainless posts, standoffs and hardware for Bluffs, Bronte, Mimico, Ajax and West Rouge waterfront homes.
A Recent Job: Replacing Tea-Stained Posts on the Bluffs
Laura’s deck on the Scarborough Bluffs had stainless posts from another contractor that went brown within one season. They were 304, not 316. We templated the deck in late winter, specd new 316 posts and welded them in the shop, chemically anchored them into the existing footings and set glass panels sized for the wind off the lake. 38 lin ft, $10,600 CAD. Two summers later there’s no staining. In our opinion the grade of stainless is the single most important detail on a lakefront railing, and it’s the one most often skipped.
When to Replace an Outdoor Railing
- Rust, bubbling paint or tea staining on steel or stainless posts.
- Loose posts that move when you lean on them.
- Wood rails that split or grey every spring.
- A new or rebuilt deck that needs a guard to pass inspection.
- A pool that needs a compliant enclosure.

Code and Detail Notes
Outdoor guards follow OBC 9.8: 42 inches on drops over 600mm, 100mm maximum openings and a non-climbable zone in homes. Pool enclosures follow the local pool enclosure bylaw with self-closing gate hardware. We choose 316 vs 304 stainless by exposure, detail surface vs fascia mount posts to suit the deck, and use chemical anchoring into concrete. Composite top rails are available on most systems.
